Resources on Critical Theory

In March 2025, Sharon James came and visited us at The Tron and spoke at a variety of ministries and events on the topics of Critical Theory and Feminism. Please find below recordings and podcast episodes from Sharon’s visit.

Podcast Episode: Understanding Critical Theory

Critical Theory is a worldview which emerged from the 'Frankfurt School' and, through deliberate planning and policy, it has come to dominate thinking in much of Western society. Whilst it might seem like quite an abstract and technical philosophical concept, its influence is felt everywhere in modern life from schools to workplaces. Therefore, it is important for us as Christians to understand this worldview in order to respond wisely to it.

Podcast Episode: The Bitter Fruits of Feminism and The Better Story of God’s Good Design

Feminism has been accepted as an undisputed force for good in our society and, in many places, also in the church. But what have been some of the damaging effects of Feminism and how should we, the church, go about heralding the better story of God's good design for men and women given to us in the Bible?

In this podcast episode, our Senior Minister, Willie Philip, interviews Sharon James to discuss these issues. Sharon is an experienced academic, author, and public speaker on these issues. She draws on her expert command of the subject as well as on years of experience of Pastoral ministry and personal family life to shed light on this difficult issue.

In these two sessions, Sharon outlines what Critical Theory is, how it has infiltrated our society, and how we, as the church, must now respond to it.
